I’m all for spreading love not hate… except when it comes to balloons!
They might look pretty but balloons cause havoc to the environment for a number of reasons:
They don’t break down (even the ‘biodegradable’ latex ones still contain unfriendly chemicals and can take up to 15 years to degrade!)
Wildlife mistake them for food, choke, and get tangled in the string
Children have died or suffered extreme injuries from suffocating on balloons and their helium
Helium is a non-renewable, we’re in a world shortage and we need it for more important medical, scientific & manufacturing reasons
Who knew it was possible to have such distain for an inanimate object?!
So before you include balloons in your next celebration, please consider alternate options such as paper streamers and lanterns, bunting, board or fabric backdrops and flowers. The planet will thank you for it.
